I’m excited to announce that last Tuesday, I received an acceptance letter for a short story from Thirteen Podcast. If you haven’t checked out their show, I recommend that you do so. They’re regularly putting out fantastic full-cast audio horror. My good friend JR Blanes recommended I send them a story, I took his advice, and here we are! My story won’t be released for 3-4 months depending on their production schedule, but in the meantime, you can listen to JR Blanes’ story here to get a feel for the show.

My story, Beneath the Pines, starts off as a gothic ghost story and ends up somewhere entirely unexpected. It has a lot of the standard gothic tropes like obsession and secrets mixed with my affinity for questioning reality. If you’ve read my other published short story in SNAFU: Punk’d, I think you’ll be amazed it’s by the same author. These two stories couldn’t be more different. But, if you like my writing, I think you’ll enjoy both.

The next story I have coming out (which I can only tease here and not announce yet) falls into the weird horror category. I’m stoopid excited for this one. It’s probably my favorite story that I’ve ever written, and I can’t wait to talk about it. Stay tuned!

I’m currently working on a submission for Bad Hand Books’ “LONG DIVISION: Stories of Social Decay, Societal Collapse, and Bad Manners” edited by Doug Murano and Michael Bailey. The story I’m writing is a science fiction/horror mash-up. I think this story is a winner if it’s half as good on paper as it is in my head. Working title is “The Machine.”

In other news, my Storyville workshop is coming to an end next week. I’m bummed about that, as I’ve looked forward to our discussions every week, but I don’t think it could have gone any better. I learned a ton, and my writing has improved immensely over the last fifteen weeks. But, I find myself scouring the internet looking for another class to fill the void when this one is gone. Any recommendations for workshops or classes that last several weeks would be appreciated.

Currently reading: Aickman’s Heirs edited by Simon Strantzas, Alone in the Dark by Ramsey Campbell, The Last Night of the Earth Poems by Charles Bukowski, and Weird Fiction: A Genre Study by Michael Cisco.

Cheers,

CJ
